Supporting Coaches

The Indigenous Hockey Coaching Grant

Sport powers communities. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Coaches Association of Ontario to give 35 outstanding Little NHL coaches up to $1,500 to cover eligible expenses for their teams, including equipment, training and transportation.

Congratulations 2023 contest winners!

The Algonquin Jr. Tbirds from Pikwakanagan First Nation have been selected by random draw as the winners of our social media contest that took place in February. They have won new hockey sticks for their entire team! Winners were notified via social media on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.

Hydro One is proud to return as the presenting sponsor of the 2020 Little Native Hockey League tournament. The 49th annual tournament will take place in Mississauga from March 16-19, 2020 and is expected to be the largest in the organization’s history, with over 3,000 competitors from Indigenous communities in Ontario participating.

Coaches Spotlight

Coach Duffy Simon: Aamjiwnaang First Nation

Meet Duffy, a team coach participating in this year’s Little Native Hockey League tournament. He started his own embroidery business 13 years ago, which supports his local Aamjiwnaang First Nation community by providing employment and business opportunities. Watch to find out what Little NHL means to him.

Coach Jim Maness: Aamjwinaang First Nation

Jim is from Aamjwinaang First Nation and has played hockey for more than 65 years. Today he instills his passion for the game in the Little NHL players that he coaches, including his grandchildren.
